Video for Nonprofits :: Invisible Children
New PROpenMic member Heather Mansfield share's this example of video from the nonprofit world. Heather has a great deal of experience using social networks to benefit nonprofits in fundraising and online community organizing. Visit the video and read what Heather has to say about the campaign. Good stuff.

Sneak Peek :: PitchEngine SMR Builder
Jason Kintzler's PitchEngineTM social media release builder was made available to all PROpenMic members recently. Thought I'd share a sneak peak at it on the front page to encourage you to check it out.

I had to break it into two parts, so sorry about that. Part I is here and you'll find Part II here. Viewing it full screen should give you a good look at the new site's features.

If The Baton Gets Dropped, Who's Responsible?

This will be a running/client service post of a different sort. This post is a bit of morning therapy, as I dredge up an unfortunate chapter in my life as a ninth grader at Broad Meadows Junior High School. I ran track for only one year, largely because back in those days I hated running. I only did it for that long because our rather large phys-ed teacher at the time made me do it. This was back in the day when teachers/coaches could cause you bodily harm without any repercussions. I typically… Continue

Tata... You peeps have fun!

I decided that I spend way too much online. (It does prove to be quite mind-numbing and puts you in a different space altogether, which is really bad—in my instance, that is.) I decided that I should really go spend time on things I haven't tried and go to places where I haven't been (especially this being Melbourne). This is especially for those who've been with me on Twitter like Phil, Robert and Barbara—thanks for having me! (Sorry I haven't got much to share.) This account will stay thoug… Continue

Good Pitch Necessary for Campaign Home run

Our campaign was finally presented last night to our client, The Dadeville Area Chamber of Commerce. I have never been so proud of a group project and a group of people before. I have known everyone in my group and had classes with them over the last couple of years of my college career and I was lucky to get to work with them one last time for our final public relations campaign. We worked very hard and after many long hours and late nights spent with my group this summer I must say that I wa… Continue

Britney Spears Did Something Right (Well, Sort Of)

I think the Britney Spears law is genius! How many of you are tired of turning on the NEWS, for crying out loud, and hearing about something in a celebrity’s life? As time goes on, it just gets more and more out of hand. Not only would a law protecting the celebrities from media coverage reduce the ridiculous news stories, it would also help the stars keep some sanity. Of course I don’t agree with Britney Spears’ time period of drama, but she is a human. I can’t imagine going through a hard spot… Continue

Hiding Behind the Camera

Photographers have always been accused of “hiding behind the camera.” The pictures that carry the heaviest emotions are images captured in extreme settings. “Hiding behind the camera” is a way of questioning, “How could you take a picture of someone in those circumstances?” I have recently taken a photojournalism class in which I have viewed many war and poverty pictures. They literally brought tears to my eyes, leaving me chocked up. It is hard to imagine how anyone could photograph a mother in… Continue

End of Internship & Campaign

My summer internship at Bella & Co. has come to an end. The value of the internship relative to career goals is tremendous. My internship really opened my eyes to the world of public relations. Having been schooled in a controlled environment in school about what PR professionals are, do and become, I started my internship thinking everyone else knew these facts, too. The truth is that the field of PR is so broad and multi-faceted that we’re a jack-of-all trades professional. We’re event p… Continue

Market Moving Thought Leadership

The backbone of public relations, social media, marketing communications and advertising programs is content that engages, educates and entertains. Our methodology at Strategic Communications Group (Strategic) is to produce and/or package content once and then merchandise it across multiple channels. This approach positively impacts awareness, credibility and lead generation (via search engine optimization and sales cycle marketing). One of the zingers I typically drop to a prospect during a ne… Continue

Happy Birthday Sam, We Miss You.

I was devastated when I read the news of my one of my favorite Auburn professors losing his battle with cancer just last Thursday at such a young age. I attended his funeral yesterday and found out that today would have been his 31st birthday. Out of all my teachers that I've had over the years, Sam was my absolute favorite. He had this dry sense of humor and sarcastic way about him that didn't really rub most people the right way upon first meeting him. But after getting to know him and workin… Continue

It's All in the Details

Every time I think the chamber campaign is complete…there’s one more media piece to write, something that could use improving on the Web site or one more presentation run-through to practice. Each aspect of this project, no matter how minute, will help determine its ultimate success. And even though my ideal summer doesn’t include late hours at the library fixing said details, I know it must be done. Having seven pairs of eyes to oversee a project is a double-edged sword. Mistakes are easily ca… Continue
